AS part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and activities to mark its 20th anniversary, Mind Builders School has renovated blocks of classrooms at Olowora Nursery and Primary School. Speaking during the handover ceremony, the school’s Education Director, Mrs. Bola Falore lauded Lagos State Government and its Ministry of Education for formulating good educational policies that enables both public and private schools to thrive.
She adduced the state’s good educational policies to the value its leaderships placed on education. According to Falore, while other states of the federation spend less than 10 per cent yearly on education, Lagos State has repeatedly devoted between 11.36 per cent to 17.11 per cent to education.
She said: “Unlike most states in the federation which have repeatedly devoted less than 10 per cent of their annual budget to the education sector, Lagos State has consistently remained more committed to the Education sector than many other states. “Records show that in year 2016 and 2017, Lagos State Government devoted 17.11 per cent and 11.36 per cent to Education Sector respectively, while in the ongoing year, the state has also devoted 12.14 per cent of its total budget of N1.04 trillion to education.” This statistics, she noted, show beyond reasonable doubt that the state is very committed to ensuring that majority of its residents are well educated.
Quoting the words of Ivan Welton Fitwater that the future of the world is in the classroom today, Falore stated that if truly the future of the world is in the classroom, there is need to make the classrooms conducive for effective learning. She said: “As a corporate entity and an education service provider, we understand the importance of learning in a child-friendly atmosphere and that was the reason 10 years ago, when our school was celebrating its 10th anniversary, we donated furniture worth N1 million to Ojodu Primary School.
This year again, by God’s grace our school has just clocked 20 years and we are still very committed to providing conducive classrooms, hence our decision to complement efforts of the State Government by embarking on this CSR project of renovating a Blöck of classrooms at Olowora Nursery and Primary School, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Lagos. “We discovered that the block of building which was constructed about 20 years ago, was no longer conducive for learning, hence our decision to embark on this renovation project.” The director urged corporate organisations, NGOs and well-meaning citizens of the country to continue to complement the efforts of the government in providing qualitative education and conducive learning environment for students.
In their reactions, the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and students, applauded the gesture of Mind Builders School and promised to make judicious use of the classrooms.
